Me-Made-May - 22.maj

It rains and temperature is boringly moderately low. I feel like wrapping up today.
I bought the dress at a flea market for 20 DKK (very little). It is one of my favourite dresses for everyday wear. So cosy. And the green colour is good on me.
The socks and the shawl are me-made. The shawl took me 1-2 hours a day for about 4 months to make. It is very special to me.

Me-Made-May 21.maj

Følte mig i forgårhumør i dag selvom regnen silede ned.

Was in a spring mood today, although the rain was pouring. The dress started out as a size XXL which I resized for myself.
The "bolero" is just a normal cardigan, which I have told up and tied.

Havefestkjole - Garden Party Dress

Scroll down for English version.

Ny kjole! Jeg føler mig som et helt blomsterbed. Der står havefest hele vejen henover den her. Hvem inviterer? :-D

Mønster
Sew Many Dresses Sew Little Time.
- Faux wrap front.
- Basic bodice back.

New dress! It say garden party in big huge letters. Invite me. :-D

Pattern

Sew Many Dresses Sew Little Time. I love that book. You put together the various bodices, skirts, sleeves and necklines as you wish to get the dress you want.
This time I made a faux wrap dress. I used the following pieces:
- Faux wrap front.
- Basic bodice back.
- Full hem skirt - Adapted from Straight skirt.
- Small pouff sleeve - Adapted from Cap sleeve.
I also made decorative ties.

Size
Upper body: 6 (Large)
Skirt: 7 (XL)
Notice that these are not UK or US sizes, but the author's own sizing system.

I made the dress in the same size I do vowens (the patterns in the book are designed for vowens and stable knits), since I wanted the dress to have a somewhat relaxed fit. Otherwise I could have gone down a size.

 Difficulty
Advanced beginner to medium. A little more complex than the basic pattern pieces of the book, which easily can be made by an advanced beginner.

Instructions
The instructions are really good, logical and easy to understand. Good clear drawings.
But as you piece the dresses together from different parts, the instructions for each of those are scattered throughout the book. That might make the book somewhat challenging to use, until you have got the hang of the concept. Sometimes details get lost.
But by and large the book is fairly easy to use.
The full hem variation got a bulge at the side seam. The description of how to made the full hem skirt wasn't that good for that part.

What did you particularly like or dislike
I love that I can make the exact dresses I want. I am very satisfied with all parts of the pattern.
If I had to mention something, it would have to be that the cap of the sleeve patterns are made so they are slightly too large for the armscyes. It is a design choice for more room to move, but I think it is troublesome to fit them in.

Fabric
Jersey knit.
A bit heavy at 0,369 kg pr. m

Alterations
- I shortened the shoulder seams slightly. I need to do this with almost all patterns as my upper body is short.
-  I shortened the skirt by 2 cm (25/32").
- The patterns in the book are for vowens and stable knits. I made the dress in a more stretchy jersey knit than the patterns are designed for, and had to make at little adjustment:
I removed a triangle of fabric from the bottom of each front wrap piece. From 0 cm at the sideseam to 5 cm (2") at the points. That made the wrap neckline fit me better and not bulge.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I love the Sew Many Dresses Sew Little Time book. In time I am probably going to sew every single dress in the book.
a) I like the design of the basic patterns as they are.
b) I like to be able to puzzle together new dresses to fit whatever ideas I have in my head. And the many variations of the already many basic patterns give me endless possibilies.
c) I also like that the variations are so well explained as it helps me to learn to alter and draft my own dresses.
If you are the type of sewist who prefers to sew one exact pattern, just as it is made, in a particular and simple order and without alterations, then this might not be the book for you (although, you could just make the basic patterns).

Me-Made-May -16.maj

A tunic that became a dress for me. Silk tunic into summer dress I love silk.
Being short do have some advantages, among them that the abundant tunics in thrift stores, work as dresses for me.
Today I wore it with  long plaid shirt. I like the shirt, but I rarely wear it. So today I was testing out if it world work like this. It was ok, but I felt it made me look rather boxy.

Me-Made-May 15.maj

The dress of the day was one of the first sewing projects that I was very satisfied with.
I made it 9 years ago. The green spring dress.
Particularly the neckline with the tiny pleats I like.
The linen/cotton fabric has only become better and softer in time.
Still cardigan weather. I like the red/green contrast, and I like patterned tights.
I tied the cardigan as I thought it was a lille boring as is. It is also the only negative thing I can think about of the outfit.

Me-Made May - 13.maj

Ups, det var en travl weekend. Tilbage igen.

Busy weekend. Back again. Dress, top, tights. The dress is my me-made. I altered it from a size XL to fit me, and also shortened it .
Again: I choose my strechy dresses over ones in woven fabric. They are just now practical when I am out and about, and also more comfortable.
I really like the loud pop of colour from the tights with the neutral colours of the rest of the outfit.
I don't particularly like to wear something on top on wrap dresses, it quickly gets lumpy. But temperatures, are still very moderate.

Me-Made-May - 9.maj - turtleneck tutorial

A simple knit dress for a practical day (this is my version of "a T-shirt and joggers").
With it one pair of my many beloved pairs of tights, and one of my favourite scarves, which is also one of my oldest scarves.
I world have liked the dress to be 5 cm (2") longer, but it is fine this way too.
The dress is one out of a whole bunch of turtleneck blouses and dresses, which I got in a clothes swap. And I removed every single one of those pesky turtlenecks, and turned them into neckline edges for the blouses and dresses.
My tutorial for how to remove and remake turtlenecks: I hate turtlenecks tutorial.

Me-Made-May - 8.maj

Dagens outfit.

Outfit of the day. To work at my cold work old on a cold day.
The skirt is today's self-sewn garment, and also twice refashioned. I made the dress a few years ago, but it got too small at the bust. I altered it to fit: Houndtooth Dress Refashion 1 But then it became too small at the bust again.
So I ended up refashioning it into a skirt, which I use fairly often in winter (it is 70% wool).
The blue silkblouse and the jade green cardigan are of course charity shop finds.
I like the 50s style of this outfit, without it becoming too rockabilly.
The colours are also very me.
The mid front seam of the skirt annoys me.
The length of the skirt I am careful with.
Most of my skirts and dresses goes to just above the knee as that is the length that makes my legs lol the longest. But I like how the below-the-knee length swishes around my knees. I want to be more brave in my skirt length choices.

Wiggle Dress P4P - Me-Made-May - 5.maj

For English scroll down.

The dress of the day is just off the sewing machine. Wiggle Dress is a clever many-in-one pattern, where you chose from different dress lengths, different sleeves, necklines, zippers, and you can also sew it as a blouse or skirt. This is a nice warm dress, a real winter dress. Yes, a bit silly in May, bit nontheless a good choice for today, since May doesn't seem to have heard about spring.
The cowl/neckwarmer is not part of the pattern, I that for it, without pattern. I will soon post how to make such one, with two colour version as well.

Mønster: Wiggle Dress fra Patterns for Pirates
Størrelsesinterval: XXS-3XL.
Variant: Kjolelængde over knæet.

Modifikationer:
Jeg lavede overkroppens længde i str. M, Bryst og talje i str. L, hofter i str. XL.

PatternWiggle Dress from Patterns for Pirates
Size range: XXS-3XL.
Variation: Overknee length dress. Long sleeves. High back and boatneck.
I sewed size: M, L and XL (see modifications). The fabric I used, doesn't have as much stretch as the pattern recommends, so I chose sligthly bigger sizes.
Fabric: Sweatshirt knit with soft brushed wrong side.

Difficulty: As many patterns for stretchy clothes, the pattern is fairly simple. There is a few techniques where it would be helpful to have some experience sewing, so I would sat moderately experienced beginner.
Instructions: Very detailed with photos for every step of the way. Even then it is fairly short. Everything is thoroughly explained, Only I would have liked a little more on fabric choice.
What did you particularly like or dislike: The dress is designed for an hour glass figure. Such one I have and it is difficult to find patterns for. So it is wonderful to sew something which is made for my figure. Especially the curved mid back seam makes this patterne very well fitting on me. I didn't like that this is a pdf pattern. I hate having to print and tape together a billion pages before I can even get to the tracing. I solved this by having the pattern printet at a copy shop, but that also costs money. I found out that there are printing services online, which will print A0s and send to you cheaper than printing at a copy shop. I plan to try out http:///www.patternsy.com (they are uprading their site at the moment but will soon be up again) next time I need one of those pesky pdf patterns.

Alterations
: I cut size M in the upper body measurements, size L for bust and waist and size XL for hips.
I cut sleeves size L without thinking about that I should probably have measured my arms. I should have cut a size XL but almost saved it by using a teeny tiny seam allowance (but I should probably make new sleeves when I can be bothered to do so, as they are slightly too narrow from elbows to wrists).
My bottom is placed a little lower than the pattern expects, so I adjusted that.
I made a detachable cowl/neckwarmer for the dress.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?Yes, I like my dress a lot, it is very good with my body type. I plan to sew several dresses in this pattern. I recommend this pattern to other people with a curvy body type (not nessesarily plus size, you can be curvy in any size). If you have a straight up and down body type, this might not be the pattern for you.It is an easy sew and the many variations included in the pattern makes it an economical way to obtain several different designs.

Me-Made-May - 4.maj - Fashion Style nederdel

Saturday and went with my son to the local board game cafe, it was its birthday. We had a great time.

I sewed this skirt a few years ago, and apparently never blogged about it!? Will så soon.
I really like this skirt. It fits very well, and this style of skirts look good on me. I have that 50es body type.
I liked that I found a use for the pretty, rather stiff fabric with BIG flowers.
I mean to make more skirts from this pattern, I have even chosen fabric, but haven't gotten to it. Get going, me.
I like the neckline and the fit of the blouse, but not the 3/4 sleeves. I always get so cold in my lower arms in those.
Oh...and pockets!

Me-Made-May - 3.maj

Today is all about comfort as I will be spending 6 hours in trains and buses.
Those ACed trains are always so cold and draughty so better bunch up, and not a farm day outside either.

This silk/wool knit wrap dress is the favourite of all my wardrobe. Immensely versatile, so comfortable, can be dressed up or down, never wrinkles. And wrap dresses looks good on me. I need more wrap dresses.
The shirt is a recent charity shop find, which I like a lot.

Me-made of the day is the scarf. I made it a few years ago from scraps from another project, and deliberately sewed them together so they would bubble/bunch. I love the fabric.

Me May-May 2019 - 2.Maj

Jeg deltager i Me-Made-May i år. Dette er hvad det går ud på:
I participate in Me-Made-May:
"To take part, you will need to set yourself a pledge to wear your me-mades more and/or in different ways, and follow it through out May. Hopefully, by the end of the month, you will have learnt a whole load about yourself, your style, how you feel about your wardrobe, and how best to spend your clothes-making time going forwards."
I decided to keep it simple. My MMM pledge is to wear at least one self sewn article of clothing each day. I will reflect on what I choose, why and what I miss.

Dagens outfit.
Outfit of the day

Selvsyet: Strømpebukserne har jeg redesignet. Yep, det kan man. Her er hvordan:
Self sewn part: I refashioned the tights. Yes, you can do that. Here is how:

I am going to work, and it is a rather chilly place. I also need clothes that allows movement. I have quite a lot of clothes in woven fabric, but often end up choosing the strechy ones.
And I lack me-made clothing for colder weather.

Skjortekjole fra blah til yndlingstøj - Shirt dress from blah to favourite

This dress just screamed potential. And it has a secret...

Hvis man nu:
- Korter den af.
- Korter ærmerne af, og laver dekorativer opsmøg.
- Tager den ind i siderne.
- Laver indsnit foran og bagpå.
So if you:
- Shorten the dress.

- Shorten the sleeves and make decorative edges.
- Narrow the dress at the sides.
- Make darts front and back.

Then you have a very comfortable and flattering dress, that goes well with everything because of the neutral colour.
And it can be used as a dress, as an over-dress (over another dress, with only a few buttons buttoned), or as a cardigan.

Og hemmeligheden?
And the secret?

Lommer!
Pockets!

Det tog ganske lang tid at få ryggen helt rigtig.
It took me quite a while to get the back just right.

Slåom-kjole i orange jersey - Orange cotton jersey wrap dress

I wanted to make this dress for quite a while and finally decided to try it out.

My finished toile. It made it look reasonable in the photo, but in reality there was several things about the patterne, I didn't like.

Without a belt the waist is very lumpy (it is worse than it looks).
And the bodice only sits as in the magazine photo if I pull the pieces to the sides. It sits like this when it glides back. Which is nice too, but not the style I was going for.

Modifikationer
Længde: Overdel: -2 cm. Underdel: -5 cm.
Undlod ærmer.
Overdel: Smallere i skulderpartiet da ærmeløs.

Fabric: Viscose(rayon)/polyester/spandex twillweave.
Size: 38-40
The instructions: Good
Anything you particularly liked or disliked about the pattern
Positive: Good fit.
Negative: In the fashion shot, the dress had a deep neckline. In reality it is high. The heavy gathers on both bodice and skirt made the waist bulky.

Modifications:
Length: Bodice: -2 cm (25/32"). Skirt: -5 cm (2").
Omitted sleeves:
Bodice: Shoulders narrower because I omitted the sleeves..

Would you recommend the pattern? Would you use this pattern again?
I will not recommend the pattern. The waist is bulky and the neckline isnt as shown. There so many other nice patterns for wrap dresses, use those in stead,
But Now I made this dress and I know what modifications to do to make it better, I will make the dress again with those modifications.

Minimalisme: Faster du? Do you fast?

English below.

Wednesday lent begins. It is about doing without something, in order to focus on something else.
I fasted the last few years:
- One year I actually fasted. I tried the 5:2 Fast Diet in order to give my body positive attention.
- Another year I did a digital fast. Less mindless scrolling and accepting being fed content. More weighty content and more focus on people.
- This year I decided to blog in a more structured way, and to blog more often. I have too many half finished blog posts. So less half hearted beginnings, more finishes.

Some people use lent as reason to do The Minimalist Game and declutter their belongings.
Maybe you want to watch fewer tv-series and read more?

What do you want to fast from or do less, and focus your intentional attention on... yes, on what?

Makeover kreahjørne/Craft Space

I finally finished upgrading my craft space!
Things are now much better organized. No more searching for what I need, in piles of mixed stuff. Not more things cluttering surfaces because they have no home.
My craft space inspires me so much more, and I have already sewn more than I did the entire last half year.
Stuff is easier to get to and use, and I find it much easier to get started on a sewing project, or just use 10 minutes to get some sewing done.

My craft space is in my main room. Apart from holding the craft space, the main room also serves as living room, dining room, tv room, game room, and is generally where we hang out. And it is only 22,3 sq m (240 sq ft).
I also needed the craft space to work better for the amount of space available, than it used to.

First I would like to recommend my favourite organiser: ClutterBug. This is NOT a sponsored post, I just happen to think she struck gold.
She divides people into four organising types. We don't organize the same way, and if you try to do it in a way, that doesn't fit you, you might think you are bad a organising, when in fact you brain just works differently.
Her test is here

I am a "bee":
1. I like and need to be able to see my stuff, or it doesn't exist to me. (Which in case of my craft space means I forget to do crafts I wanted to do).
2. I like to organise really detailed. (Because otherwise I get frustrated at having to rummage through boxes of miscellaneous stuff, and end up not using it).

Let's go:

First I got rid of my old sewing table, and packed stuff in boxes. Stuff explosion.

New table: IKEA SKARSTA adjustable table. 70 x 120 cm (the smaller one).
.

So exited. :-)

Table in place. Now onto some serious tidying and organizing.

I spend two weeks figuring out how to organize what and where, and how. Huge job.

But finally everything was sorted and divided and decluttered and tidied.

I introduce to you: My new and opgraded craft corner!

To the left 5 white bookcases on wheels.
And an oak veneer book case, which stands on the floor.
Then the work space.

And to the right more oak veneer book cases.

Now lets go into details:

White bookcases on wheels to the left
The white book cases on wheels are IKEA BILLY.
They each have a piece of floor particle board screwed into the bottom, and four non-swivel wheels attached to the board (non-swivel because then they pull out straight).

The wheeled bookcases are sturdy and easy to pull out.
I only ever pull them 90% for safety reasons. Should one tumble over, the other book cases will catch it. The oak veneer bookcase closest to the work table, is securely anchored to the wall.

NB! IKEA advises that BILLY be attached to the wall. The book cases could in extreme circumstances tumble over. If you copy my idea, it is at your own risk.
I have thought about creating casings that attach to the ceiling, that the book cases could run in. That will both secure them even more, and they would pull out even more straight.

The two outer bookcases contain fabric.
I have a cardboard template, that I fold my fabric around for it to fit nicely on the shelves.
I used this tutorial.

Assorted crafts:
Top three shelves: Knitting yarn.
Fourth shelf: Bra making materials.
Fifth shelf: Skin care product DIY materials, and my laminator.
Sixth shelf: Shoe making, fabric stamps, embroidery.
Seventh shelf: Assorted home DIY, acrylic paint and interior decorating.
Bottom: Gifts.

Clothes and bags for refashion:

Fabric scraps, doll making, and dvds (because there was an empty spot there).

The oak coloured book case holds my nice tableware and - Oh shock! Books.

Next to the book case, usually placed in the empty space in fron of the oak bookcase, is our pencil, marker, scissors caddy.
And a few kilos of yarn, that I will begin a projects with soon.

Work space
What might jump out at first, is that there is no chair. The table is adjustable and I keep it at stand height. I could lower it, but I haven't felt the need to, since i put the table up.

I love standing to sew. I put foam floor puzzle pieces under the table to cushion a bit when I stand there.

I have a small ironing board, which hangs on the wall below the table. I used to have a big ironing board, but I could never be bothered to pull it out. Although this small one is not as practical for ironing big things, the fact that I can easily pull it out and set it up, means that it is actually getting used.
To the left at small trash can, where I collect fabric scraps. They go to a charity that have them recycled into new prodcts.
To the right the small metal chests hold various cords and power strips in a decorative way.

Above the table to the left is my book display. I regularly change the books and magazines out, they inpspires me a lot.

Below, on the table, the sewing tools I use the most. IKEA HÖFTA dividers.

Thread.

My two mini transparent drawers.  They are basically my very organised and neatly labeled junk drawer. They both hold tiny sewing notions, and all the other tiny himstregimser a house holds.
(Oh and this is totally a Clutterbug "bee" item).

To the right of the drawers is my meme board.
Below it two small notice boards made of cork coasters covered in pretty fabric (Robert Kaufmann).
I keep oddly shaped craft tools on them.

Oak veneer book cases to the right
Book cases with doors.

From the top:
- Craft books (and gardening books).

(Oh and on top is my peppermint green Husquarna Zig-zag 1962 *love* ).

Below:
- The four small white baskets hold current projects. I am not allowed to have more than one project per basket going at the same time.

- I keep the sewing notions I use the most, in the five larger white baskets: Elastics, zippers, velcro, interfacing, ribbon, bias tape, all sort of string type thingies, and my iron.

- At the bottom is my sewing patterns in the white folders, separated by type. And also my gardening magazines.

The sewing notions are organised in the baskets with drawer dividers  Again IKEA HÖFTA.
Before and after photos of the notions baskets.

The last oak veneer bookcase.
Top left: Books, sewing machine accesories in the small baskets.
Top right: Baskets with glues, lace, paper. Below them pattern magazines.

Bottom left: Office items.
Bottom right: More pattern magazines and individual patterns. My knitting needles. And big spools of ribbon.

On top of this bookcase I keep my "treasure chest" of button and beads.

We are not done yey? Even though there is only one table in the main room, I have a cutting table.

The main living space is very multi-purpose, and it is mostly due to this table:

This is the coffee table.
70 x 120 cm width and length (2' 3 9/16" x 3' 11 1/4").
40 cm height (15 3/4") .

Now it is the dining table 76 cm height (2' 5 59/64").

And now it is the big dining table. Or as I mostly use it: My cutting table.
120 x 140 cm length and width  (3' 11 1/4" x 4' 71/8" ).

I use these foam puzzle pieces as the surface. They are great for pinning the fabric to to keep it straight, or to keep flimsy or slinky fabric to escape.
I will make another blog post about it.

And lastly I have this area, I call it my flex(ible) area below the windows. On purpose there is no furniture here, but have foam floor puzzle pieces on the floor for comfort/warmth.
I like to sit on the floor. If I don't feel like using the (cutting) table, I will sit there to cut, mark, pin ect.

That wooden box on the mat? It has wheels and at any time holds the sewing project I am working on at the moment (not to confuse with those four small white boxes of current projects).

And that is it. On the last wall is board games and the television.

I would love to hear your reactions, questions, suggestions to my craft space.
